What Is the ISSN (International Standard Serial Number)?

ISSN (International Standard Serial Number)
is a unique code that identifies a serial or continuing resource,
such as a journal, magazine, or online publication,
and is used for identification and management purposes.
ISSN was introduced in 1976, and is now managed by the intergovernmental organization the ISSN International Centre.
An ISSN is an eight-digit code, divided by a hyphen into two four-digit numbers as shown below:
NNNN-NNNC
where:
N is in the set {0,1,2,...,9}
C is in the set {0,1,2,...,9,X}
For example, "Journal of Mother and Child" registered with 2 ISSNs:
2719-6488 for print version 2719-535X for online version
